Application of sedimentary simulation techniques in oil and gas field exploration - A case study about Baimiao gas field in Dongpu DepressionBased on a detailed investigation about the similar research by scholars in China and foreign countries, this paper has discussed about the current status of the development of the sedimentation simulation technologies in China and foreign countries, and expounded on the principles and methodology for the study of sedimentation simulation. With the fan delta at ES2lower, ES3upper, ES3middle and ES3lower of Baimiao gas field in Pudong Depression as the object of this research, this dissertation has carried out a systematic study about the processes of formation and laws of evolution of the fan delta, and elucidated the characteristics about the distribution of sand at different stages. In this way, the paper has proposed a set of effective and practicable systems of methods for the prediction of gas and oil reserves.The dissertations can be divided into five different chapters.In Chapter 1, the development process of the sedimentation simulation technologies was reviewed, and points were made that that the development process can be divided into three stages, with the key research contents and the innovative achievements by major representative researchers being summarized for each stage. Moreover, the current development status of sedimentation simulation research in China was demonstrated and five big trends for the future development of sedimentation simulation technologies were analyzed.The geometric similitude, kinematic similitude and kinetic similitudebetween the lab model and the prototype for sedimentation simulation form the basis of three similitude principles, while three similitude rules, i.e., the suspension similitude rule, the particle movement similitude rule and the riverway distortion similitude rule can be deduced from the three similitude principles, and thee principles and rules are the basic theories for the development of physical simulation about the clastic sedimentation processes. Based on these theories, this paper has discussed about the major methods as used for clastic sedimentation simulation (i.e., method using natural models and method using scale models), and proposed major methods and steps for the development of physical simulation about the clastic sedimentation processes. All these constitute the major contents of Chapter 2 of this dissertation.Fan delta sediment is an important class of reservoir sand and has been a hot topic for reservoir research by scholars recently, this is simply because abundant oil and gas resources were discovered in it. Chapter 3 of this dissertation has discussed about the current status of the study about fan delta by scholars in China and foreign countries, the major types, sedimentation models and sedimentation characteristics of fan delta, and has since laid a solid foundation for the development of the study about the sedimentation simulation about the fan delta in Baimiao gas field.Sedimentation simulation can be divided into physical simulation and numerical simulation based on the methods of study utilized. Chapter 4 of this dissertation has carried out a physical simulation study about the processes of formation and laws of evolution of the fan delta in Baimiao gas field. Based on the results of the study about the geological background in this area, this paper has discussed about the sedimentation facies marks for the fan delta in Baimiao gas field, worked out a detailed proposal about the development of physical simulation experiment about the fan delta, and described in detail the general laws and major controlling factors governing the sedimentation processes of the fan delta. A detailed measurement was made about the experimental results, and a systematic comparison was made relative to the prototypic characteristics.
