Based on a general analysis of the geological situation of Linnan depression, the structural evolution of the study area has been studied in detail. There are 4 main seismic sections which have been analyzed. They are line 58, line 82.9, line 463 and line 468.5. The result indicates that the most active structural movement is in the Eocene and with the progress of time, the movement becomes weaker and weaker. In the Ed period, the structural extensional movement has almost stopped. In the aspect of sequence stratigraphy, the Es3-Ed has been divided into 2 2nd-order sequences and 6 3rd-order sequences in farther. The upper Es4 has been divided into 1 3rd-order sequence. In the sedimentary analysis, firstly, the sedimentary facies have been studied. It includes the characters of petrology, textures and sedimentary structures. Secondly, the analysis of single well section has been made on several wells and on the basis, the multi-well section analysis has been done. Finally, in the study area, there are 4 kinds of facies have been identifyied. In the oil reservoir formation researching, the concepts of active axis surface and GTS (geo-transformation system) have been put forward. And the pertinent researching methods have been mentioned also. And on this basis, combined with the petroleum geological conditions, the study using the GTS methods has been done on the Linnan depression. At last, some favorable areas for the exploration have been predicted.
