The application of large-scale (>1:100000) geological exploration information occurred some problems in two aspects of engineering exploration and geological data manage, such as low-lever repetition of manage application and information isolated.The paper starts with the method research in theory, which is Model Driven Architecture and the ontological idea in the field of computer. Combined with the characteristic of Unified Modeling Language and GIS, this article discusses the method and the basic of GIS information modeling , and demonstrates the function of MDA and UML modeling in GIS development and application.In the aspect of technology innovation and application, the concept model and logic model of geological exploration are created with UML according by concept analysis of geological exploration based on ontology-driven modeling. Referring to national standards and specifications of geological exploration, the metadata model and open coding system are established. Research on the activity model reveals collaboration, process and interactive action between the instances of geological exploration classes. Finally, there are four types of representation models based GIS, which are plan, contour map, histogram and section map. Based on the modeling research, geological exploration information based GIS is designed and developed, which realize uniform managements of geological exploration data, basic geographic and geological data, and the integrated applications of data represented and edited, expediently powerful function of theme maps printed, and visually analyzing on geological exploration.Based on the logic model of geological exploration, an extendable geological 3D information model is established. The 3D model is probed into data model, computing model and visualization model. According to the in-depth research, three-dimensional stratum is modeled with arithmetic of vector lay by original data of geological exploration. With component-based development, the information system of geological3D modeling is designed and established, which succeeds in applying to building strutum 3D model and analyzing visually of geological body.The research achieves the innovation of data management and integration application at the aspects of method and technology, which is implemented by two kinds of application actors on the macro-geological data management and engineering exploration. This achievement has the obvious value in scientific research and application which is the extend of Digital Earth and Digital City scientific research.
