Unlike conventional ground-based satellite tracking systems, the space-based GPS can provide relatively inexpensive, accurate, continuous and comprehensive tracking of low Earth satellites. In fact, before the use of GPS technique, most ground-based tracking systems could hardly track an Earth satellite without interruption. Due to its comprehensive and three-dimensional (3-D) observation character, GPS signals provide excellent geometric information for satellite orbit determination. The space-based GPS technique is becoming a main instrument of low Earth satellites orbit determination.Today, the research about GPS-based precise orbit determination of low Earth satellites has become one of hotspots in the world. Many famous organizations are pushing the GPS-based precise orbit determination technique, and bigger progress has been made. This thesis has made deeply researches on some subjects of GPS-based precise orbit determination of low Earth satellites. The main work and conclusions of this study are summarized as follows. The basic principle and methods of kinematic orbit determination of low orbit satellites based on GPS technique are studied. The merits and demerits of kinematic orbit determination methods are analyzed. And the progress of kinematic orbit determination of low orbit satellites based on GPS and studies related are discussed.
