Kimberlite and lamproite were found in the north part of Shanxi province in 1966, and a lot of geological work have been done since then. However,it is still urgent for us to make allround, systematic and profound researches, because diamond is a kind of poorly meeted resource. This Ph. D dissertation is one of the new achievements, which is guided with new metallogenic theories for diamond. This paper studies on the petrological and geochemical characters of kimberlite and lamproite from the north part of Shanxi province, on the physical and compositional features of rock-forming minerals and clue minerals for diamond prospecting, and on the metallogenic epoch and metallogenetic conditions for kimberlite and lamproite. The ore potentiality of kimberlite and lamproite and their relationships with geological evolution have also been studied in this paperThe results demonstrate that the kimberlite from the north part of shanxi province is a kind of olivine-type riched in mica, and demonstrate that the lamproites from Yinniugou are sanidine lampro ite, phlogopite lamproite and leucite lamprorite. All of them are of no use economically. It is the first time for the author to separate two diamonds of fine granular by hand-panning from the No. 2 kimberlite pipe in Shuigoumen. This work effectively supports the opinion that the kimberlite in Shuigoumen bears diamond and coincides with the phenomena that the pipe bears accompanying minerals of diamond such as low calc chrome-pyrope (GIO), high chromium low aluminium chrome-ceylonite and magnesium-ilmenite.A first Rb-Sr isochron for the Shuigoumen kimberlite has been attained, which indicates that middle Proterozoic stage for the formation of diamond and lamproite in the Huabei platform, and that the north part of Shanxi province bear the condition for the formation of diamond kimberlite from middle Proterozoic to Palaeozoic.
