In this thesis, the basic theories, techniques and their practice using spaceborne InSAR for ground subsidence investigation have been described. The key technology and practical issues by use of Multi-source and multi-temporal InSAR image data for surface subsidence monitoring in a coal mining area have been systematically probed, which include the new methods of space baseline precision estimation, geometry registration of SAR images in the case of no exact satellite orbit data, the integration of high-precision levelling, GPS surveying and D-InSAR measuring, the comparison and analysis between the coal mining activity material and the integrative measuring results of ground subsidence in the mining area. The results of experiments and research in Fengfeng Coal Mines, Hebei province show that the resultants of D-InSAR measuring, precision levelling surveying and GPS observation are coincident in the location, scale and accuracies of mining area subsidence; In general, the measurements using L-band D-InSAR is superior to C-band while SAR interferogram quality was poor in some districts; The locations and degrees of ground subsidence between Spaceborne SAR monitoring and the practical resultants derived from underground mining activities are quite coincidence, keeping with about 90%.
