Organic Electroluminscent (OEL) technology has revealed the great potential application in flat panel display, and is regarded as "The third generation of flat panel display" and has attracted much interest all over the world. In this dissertation the research of calixarene functional materials and the development of OEL materials and devices are reviewed, which indicates that calixarene possessed electric-light transform characteristic hasn't ever been reported. To overcome the defects of OEL materials, three types of new OEL materials based on calixarene have been designed, synthesized and firstly used as light-emitting materials in OELDs by spin. They are lanthanide-calixarene complexes, calixarene pyrazoline derivatives and calixarene-Schiff-base complexes. Their photoluminescence(PL) and electroluminescence(EL) properties have been investigated thoroughly, and the relationships between molecular structure and light emission properties have been studied as well. The PL results indicate that all these materials exhibit good fluorescence in both solid states and solution. Furthermore they possess excellent solubility and film formation property. As to their EL properties, they can be used as emitting materials doped in PVK to fabricate the OELDs that can emit red, green and blue lights. They have excellent EL properties and are considered to be new prospective OEL materials.
