The environmental problem caused by municipal solid waste has attacted more and more public's attention as domestic urbanization and economic development speed rise up. The major treatment technologies in the world are landfill, incineration and composting. For the limit of economy, the landfill will dominate for a long time in China.The main secondary pollution caused by landfill is the leachate, which mainly comes from the decomposition of municipal solid waste and rainfall's penetration through garbage. A large quantity of leachate will generate during the operation. It is characterized by broad changing rang of water quantity and quality, high CODCr of 103 ~ 104 mg/L, high ammonia of 102 ~ 103mg/L, and low BOD5/CODCr value meaning poor biological degradation ability. Research shows that there are more than 70 organic and metal materials in the leachate. Projects in service and researches verify that it is difficult to meet the requirement of discharge standard to treat the leachate only by anaerobic or aerobic biological process without pretreatment.Due to more and more attention, many researchers engage in the research of leachate treatment. Considering the constraint of operation cost, most of researchers concentrate their efforts on the biological treatment process, which is more prevalent for its low operation cost.Among the large number of leachate treatment facilities, few meet the requirement of discharge standard. Usually the process successing in one plant seldom gets the similar result. It is difficult to repeat its success in other projects. The main reason of defeat is wrong designing thoughtway. Most of designer just adopts the design method of anaerobic reactor for the treatment of industrial wastewater of high concentration or other thumb parameter without considering the characteristics of leachate .Based on other researchers' fruits and on-service projects' operational experiments, this dissertation makes a detailed analysis of leachate component by updated anaerobic and aerobic theory and bring forward the treatment process: "nutriment adjustment + UASB + blow-off + SBR" after theoretical calculation. At last an experiment is performed to test this process and detailed theoretic is also carried out. The traditional method is abolished and a new design process isestablished here. The new design method is based on sludge age and key parameters from laboratory tests. This method asks some design parameters to specific leachate. Just this specification ensure the project's effectivity. This research including the below. 1. analysis of leachate component change to landfill age .2. analysis and comments on various leachate treatment processes.3. for the leachate collected from Chongqing landfills, the components analysis is performed according to the theoretic processs.4. theoretic calculation of experimental process.5. an testing experiment is performed to verify the process.6. result and discuss including the kinetic parameters' calculation.7. analyzing various factors that affect the treatment process.The experiment shows that leachate treated by the process of nutriment adjustment + UASB + blow-off + SBR can meet the requirement of the first standard for CODCr and ammonia.
