A package of analytical methods was developed for systematic studies on thegeographical, seasonal distributions of shellfish toxin in various shellfish speciesalong the sea coast of China. Among these methods, a high performance liquidchromatography-mass spectrum (HPLC-MS) based protocol was established for thesurvey of geographical, seasonal distribution of OA, STX, DA in 17 shellfish andshrimp species along the seacoast of Dalian City; A MEKC method was used tostudy the geographical, seasonal distribution of OA DTX-1 in 3 shellfish specieswith economical values in Dalian sea area; HPCL-FD method was adopted toinvestigate the geographical distribution, seasonal changes and accumulation levelvariations of OA in 5 shellfishes species with economical values, during the periodof out-break and fading-away of red tide in the Liaodong Bay, Bohai Sea; CZE wasused for a systematical survey of geographical distribution of DA in 21 shellfishesspecies with economicalvalues along the sea coast of China. The breakthrough of these novel analytical methods and the systematic studieson geographical, seasonal distributions of shellfish toxin in various shellfish speciesalong the sea coast of China have set the technical foundations for furtherdevelopment of on environmental sciences for ecological studies in sea areas. The interactions between the shellfish toxins and oligo-dsDNA were also studiesto explore the toxicological mechanism and potential medical applications ofshellfish toxins. We studied the interaction between shellfish toxins andoligo-dsDNA by capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) and none gel sievingelectrophoresis (NGSCE). And, for the first time, observed and analyzed thecharacteristics of the interaction between shellfish toxins and oligo-dsDNA. Basedon these work, future studies will help to understand the toxicological mechanismand potential medical applications of shellfish toxins.
