With the mineral resources increasingly deficient, small, complicated, their flotation becomes more and more difficult, but the requirement for the mineral raw materials of high quality and nonferrous metals is rising continuously with the development of national economic. How to alleviate the contradiction by carrying out the comprehensive utilization of mineral resources to keep national economic sustainable development has been one of great immediate significance in present flotation scientific and technological fields. New technology of potential-controlled flotation, which is of better selectivity and of lower reagent consumption, is very important field of mineral processing to develop in new century.Jamesonite, marmatite, pyrrhotite and pyrite are the complicated and mutiple-metal sulfide resources to process difficultly in Dachang Mine. Research on the basic theory of flotation electrochemistry and on potential-controlled flotation technology of the sulfide resources can be helpful to develop some new flotation theory and technology of the complicated and mutiple-metal sulfides, and to utilizate comprehensively the mineral resources, and to lower their production cost, and to improve the economical benefits. It is of important theoretical and practical significance. So the project (50234010) was key sponsored by China Natural Science Foundation. As a part of this key program from China Natural Science Foundation, this research focuses on the electrochemical reactions and oxidization products on the surfaces of jamesonite and marmatite, and on the change of their interfacial structures and their electrochemical mechanisms by various methods of thermodynamic, electrochemistry (such as Tafel, constant potential step, cycle voltammetry, AC impedance) and IR, UV spectra when the collectors, adjusting reagents act with the sulfide minerals in the flotation system so that the electrochemical conditions to float selectively the minerals can be decided. The practical behaviors of potential-controlled flotation of the complicated and multiple-metal sulfide minerals are suitably explained by the basic theory of flotation electrochemistry from this study, which is also helpful for further improving and developing new technologies of the potential-controlled flotation of the Pb-Sb-Fe-Zn complicated and multiple-metal sulfide minerals. The electrochemistry and the mechanism of jamesonite, marmatite with collectors have not been reported and the study blazes new trails.
