Measurement and testing of geometric sense are indispensable segmentations of manufacturing technology. Geometric sense measurement using general optical instrument has some shortcomings such as complex process, long-time measurement, obvious subjective error, and low automatic degree. Computer vision measurement is a new technique based on modern optics in measurement area, and it is a modern test technique which includes optical electronics, computer iconography, information processing and computer vision etc. It is able to realize intelligence, numeralization, miniaturization, network, and multifunction, and has the capabilities of inspection on real-time, real analysis and control. It belongs to non-contact measurement and is concerned and researched widely in all kinds of fields.In foreign, computer vision is widely used in automatic detection includes automatic visual inspection and automatic identifying for industrial components. At the present time automatic visual inspection is already applied to product configuration inspection and surface defect inspection such as flap-type detection of processing center, metal surface visual inspection, diode substrate inspection, defect detecting test of printed circuit board, automatic welded seam identification and belt conveyer visual inspection etc.. Now vision inspection contains more content, and the inspection process also has high replication and intelligence, which can realize accurate and quick measurement of micro-size, shape match, color identification, 3D geometric dimension measurement of finished product or unfinished product and so on. Non-contact measurement using computer vision erases the possible work piece surface damage happened in contact measurement and overcomes subjective flaw of visual method, it can easily realize intelligence, therefore, it will be booming in future.
