The researches related to the decolorization of dye wastewaters were reviewed. Chemometrics and piezoelectric sensor methods were employed to analyze the decolorization processes of simulated dye wastewaters by chemical flocculation. The data analysis method can provide more detailed information for the understanding of the decolorization processes. The main researches and conclusions are given as follows:1. Data analysis and related concentration measurements in single dye simulated wastewaters during chemical flocculation processes.Epicholorohydrin-dimethylamine polymer(EPI-DMA), polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride (PDMDAAC), and polynuclear species, Al12AlO4(OH)24(H2O)127+(Al13) were used as the flocculants. Anionic dyes, namely Reactive Brilliant Red (K-2BP),Reactive Violet (K-3R) and Reactive Black (KN-B), were chosen to prepare the simulated dye wastewater samples. The decolorization behaviors of the nine samples were tested. Fourier transform, factor analysis and multiple linear regression methods were used to analyze the spectrometric data in the dye samples during the flocculation processes. It is shown that free dye, complex of dye and flocculant as well as the light scattering from the particles are the three components that are related directly to the decolorization efficiency in the samples tested. The concentrations of the three components are related to the dosage of flocculant. In the region of insufficient dosage of flocculant, the residual color in the samples is mainly due to free dye. When the flocculant is over dosed, the residual color in the samples is mainly from the...
