The rise and deformation of bubbles in another stationary fluid is investigated using PLIC (Piecewise Linear Interface) method of VOF(Volume-of-Fluid), the method is based on one set of governing equations for whole computation domain and treating different phases as one fluid. The main works and conclusions include are as follows:1. The advances in the research of the characteristics of bubbles rising and deformation are reviewed overall. The necessary and feasibility of the application of direct numerical simulation methods are pointed out.2. Describe the governing equations and details of VOF tracking technique using a piecewise-linear interface calculation (PLIC) in each cell.3. A systematic computational study on the dynamics of a gas bubble rising in a viscous liquid is presented, and the analysis of the effects of viscosity, surface tension, ratio of density and viscosity on the bubble's deformation, rising and directory of bubbles are conducted. Viscosity and surface tension play more important role on the rising velocity and breaking-time of bubbles.4. The rising and deformation of two identical spherical and deformational bubbles moving side by side or in a line in a viscous fluid is studied numerically. The interaction between two bubbles with a wide range of Reynolds number and separation distance is studied. The phenomena of decrease and increase of rising velocity during the period of volume changing is noticed.5. The study of dynamics of bubbly flow in array is presented considering the colliding and merging accompany with rising and disturbing to the surrounding fluid. The effect of different positions to rising velocity is also considered.
