Sustainable development has to face urgent challenges with the global urbanization and industrialization. One direct result of rapid urbanization in China is the lack of prime farming land resources, which results in the great threaten to the Chinese food safety strategy. Limited farming land resources and unlimited demands to economic development becomes a more and more severe conflict, and the conflict among society development, resource protection and environment construction becomes deeper and more prominent.This thesis aims at sustainable use of land resources. Leading by theory of eco footprint and theory of eco system service function, the concept model of land resource sustainable use is constructed. Object layer, idea layer, theory layer and technical method layer are cores of this model. Eco footprint model is put forward based on the eco system service function. Balance factor and output factor are the most important parameters in this model. The case study is Dalian city. The plan of land resource sustainable use is optimized after adjusting the structure and layout of land using on different objectives.Firstly, the thesis establishes urban land sustainable use layer concept model on the basis of discussion on bearing ability theory and eco footprint theory. The concept layer used in urban land sustainable use, including four fields of relationships and mechanisms, object layer, idea layer, theory layer and technology method, is introduced in this model.Secondly, the thesis discusses that the traditional Wachernagel and Ress eco footprint model is deficient in research on demanding of people to resources and supplying ability of land eco system. The traditional model neither explains the integrity of eco system. Thus the value estimation of eco service function of eco producing land is introduced, and calculating method of main parameters, balance factor and output factor, in eco footprint model is altered in the new eco footprint model based on eco system service function. The model explains that region people resource consumption consumes producing land as well as the eco system service function of the land.Finally, the improved eco footprint model based on eco system service function is applied in the structure optimizing in land sustainable use in Dalian. The eco footprint dynamic characters and space different characters are analyzed, the land demanding in 2015 in Dalian is determined, multiple object optimization in land use of Dalian is made supporting by GIS, and the structure and plan of land resource sustainable use in Dalian is founded.
