The high capability of O-E theodolite to track and acquire fast moving targets is required these years because of the rapid advancement of tested targets and automatization of equipments. It will produce very big angular velocity, angular acceleration and angular jerk when tracking fast moving targets. This may lead bigger tracking error and fail to track targets. These problems of how to improve the O-E theodolite capability to track and acquire fast moving targets are discussed in this dissertation.The traditional evaluating and testing the tracking precision of O-E theodolite TV tracking system is nearly invalid when O-E theodolite tracking fast moving targets by analyzing in theory and simulating in this dissertation. The equivalent target method and some other methods to evaluate and test the tracking precision of O-E theodolite TV tracking system are brought forward.The concept of acceleration delay compensation is put forward in this dissertation. By using acceleration delay compensation and TV tracker compensation technology the tracking capability of O-E theodolite TV tracking system is promoted to track fast moving targets at maximal 50°/s angular velocity and maximal 30°/s2 angular acceleration other than maximal 30°/s angular velocity and maximal 12°/s2 angular acceleration before while the maximal tracking error is still less than 3′. TV automatic acquisition technology is studied elementarily. By using multi control models and choosing the proper acquisition occasion and other technologies a moving target at 11°/s is automatic acquired in 1.53°field of view. In the end, the theories and technologies discussed in this dissertation were tested with experiments. The experiment results are much more like the analyzed and simulated results. It verifies that the theoretical analysis in this dissertation is correct and it is very valuable for engineering.
