In the exordium, the thesis introduces inverter and its application in the power transmission system, expounds its state-of-the-art in domestic and overseas. The thesis mainly discusses the power flow direction, classification, characteristic, application of the inverter, and the drawbacks of the popular inverter topology. Afterwards, this paper proposes the demand of studying the novel inverter topology and modifying the performance of the intrinsic inverter. And then introduces the concept of the novel Z-source converter, includes its topology and application. In the end, the significance and contents of the study is introduced.The second chapter of the thesis introduces and analyzes the topology, operating principle, control method and application of the voltage-fed Z-source inverter. In the chapter, the thesis detailed introduces the topology and operating principle of the novel inverter firstly, and then it detailed discusses the control method of the circuit from different point of view;To design the circuit better, this chapter detailed analyzes the switch stress. In the end, an adjustable speed drive system based on voltage-fed Z-source inverter is introduced, its virtue, buck-boost mechanism, operating mode, power flow process over a switching cycle and spectrum characteristic is analyzed.The third chapter of the thesis introduces the design method of the voltage-fed Z-source inverter, and gives many simulation and experimental results. As a novel inverter, the Z-source inverter not only has unique circuit structure, but also has excellent characteristics. This chapter detailed discusses the design method of the voltage-fed Z-source inverter, includes the design method of main circuit and control circuit. In the end, it gives many simulation and experimental results to verify the performance and characteristics of the circuit.The fourth chapter proposes the topology of the current-fed Z-source inverter, detailed introduces and analyzes its operating principle, control method and application, etc. Based on the duality principle, the thesis proposes the novel current-fed Z-source inverter. Alike the case of the voltage-fed Z-source inverter, the thesis also detailed introduces its operating principle firstly, and then it detailed discusses the control method of the circuit from different point of view. To design the circuit better, this chapter detailed analyzes the switch stress. In the end, it gives many simulation and experimental results to verifythe performance and characteristics of the circuit.The sixth chapter of the thesis proposes the Z-source ac-ac converter topology, introduces its operating principle, control method, device stress, design method, etc. Based on the analysis and study of the Z-source inverter topology, the thesis proposes the Z-source ac-ac converter topology, includes voltage-fed and current-fed single phase and three phase circuit, analyzes their operating principle, control method, merits and demerits, the relationship between the input and output voltage, phase shift, device stress, design method, applications, and so on. The validity of the analysis and the feasibility of the circuit are verified by the simulation and experimental results.In the end, the sum-up and expectation of the study and the application of the novel Z-source converter is made, and some idea about the Z-source converter is proposed, and this will be my future directory in research and study.
