Four male sterile lines including 2 cms lines (XA and II-32A) and their eui lines (XeA(2) and II-32eA(l)), possessing eui2 and euil gene, respectively) and four restorer lines (Minghui63, Minghui86, Wanhui57, Miyang46) were used to create a set of incomplete diallel crosses to study the plant type, yield components, and genetics of major agronomic traits of eui-hybrids. In addition, their grain quality was analyzed. The main results were as followings: Compared with the original non-eui-hybrids, the plant type and growth duration of eui-hybrids was similar to original hybrids. But some biological traits of eui-hybrids were different from original hybrids. eui-hybrids showed a little increased heterosis in plant height, and a little decreased number of tillers. For yield components, eui-hybrids decreased their productive panicle, seed setting, grain number, but increased their grain weight. eui-hybrids had the same yield level as original hybrids. Grain was longer, wider and increased L/W ratio in eui-hybrids. Lodging index increased a little. Statistical results showed there was no significant difference in agronomic traits between eui-hybrids and its original non-euz- hybrids. Compared with the corresponding hybrids, yield of some the eui-hybrids were higher and some were lower according to various 1000-grain weight, productive panicle, seed setting rate and grain number. The yield components contributing to yield in order a&cording to importance were grain number, productive panicle, 1000-grain weight and seed setting rate for the original hybrids, and grain number, seed setting rate, productive panicle and 1000-grain weight for eui-hybrids. The results of lodging analysis showed some difference existed among different hybrids. There was no significant difference for traits related lodging resistance between eui-hybrids and theirs original hybrids. The eui-hybrids also showed a little increased breaking resistant strength, and a little decreased lodging index. The different grain quality between eui-hybrids and original ones was appearance quality. Grain got a little longer, wider and increased LIW ratio in eui-hybrids. Decreased brown rice and milled rice, increased head rice. Amylose decreased 0.2% percent, and crude protein increased 0.22% percent. The analysis of combining ability indicated variance for general combining ability of 3 plant height, flag leave, second leave from top, third leave from top, panicle length, first internode from top, second internode from top, third internode from top, fourth internode from top, fifth internode from top, grain number, primary branch, secondary branch, productive panicle, seed density, seed setting rate, 1000-grain weight and growth .duration were significantly different, except third internode from top in male sterile lines. Variance for all the traits in restorer lines was significant at 5% or 1% level. Variance of specific combining ability for plant height, panicle exsertion, first internode from top, seed setting rate, 1000-grain weight and growth duration were significant at 5% or 1% level. In comparison with original lines, the general combining ability for plant height, panicle exsertion, flag leave, second leave from top, panicle length, first internode from top, seed density and growth duration of II-32eA(1) was different from ll-32A, and only plant height, first internode from top, growth duration of XeA(2) was different from XA. The corn bining ability effe...
