Objective: The purpose of this research was to compare the clinical outcomes and mid-long-term patency rate of endoscopic versus open saphenous vein harvest in CABG through a prospective controlled study. Methods: From January 2011 to December 2012, 241patients(112endoscopic harvests and 129 open harvests) underwent coronary artery bypass grafting in the affiliated hospital of Qingdao university. The operation risk factors, harvesting time and length of venous grafts, as well as the clinic outcomes and incision complications were compared between two groups. To evaluate the patency rate of venous grafts, coronary artery CTA was used at 3 years postoperatively. Results: There was no significant difference in risk factors of incision complications between the two groups, but the incidence of various incision complications was lower in the EVH group than in the OVH group(P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in patency rate of venous grafts and clinic outcomes between two groups 3 years postoperatively(P>0.05).Conclusion: EVH was safe, and the decrease in incision complications of EVH was unquestionably superior to those of OVH, especially for those patients having high risk factors of incision complications. With increasing experiences, the EVH technique may replace traditional saphenous vein harvesting methods and become the standard option.
