Objective: To investigate the effects of Fujian Tablet on neurogenesis after cerebral ischemic stroke. Methods: Based on the theory of "kidney produces sui", we set up MCAO rat model. Five indexes including Nestin, PSA-NCAM, MAP-2, GAP-43 and SYN38 were measured in situ hybridization and immunohistochemical methods to evaluate the effects of Fujian Tablet on the proliferation, migration, differentiation of neural stem cells, axonal growth and synapse formation. Other two indexes including trk-B, NOGO-A were used to assess the effects on the neurotropic factor and inhibitory factor. Results: Fujian Tablet could increase the expression of neurotropic factor and decrease that of inhibitory factor. It promoted proliferation, migration, differentiation of neural stem cells, axonal growth and synapse formation remarkably. Conclusions: The traditional Chinese medicine with effects of tonifying the liver and kidney can significantly improve the symptoms of functional deficit of nerve after cerebral ischemic stroke and one of the important mechanisms is to promote neurogenesis. Tonifying the liver and kidney is of great importance to promote proliferation, migration and differentiation of neural stem cells which are related to neurogenesis closely.
