Purpose: To investigate the value of multidetectors CT scanner in segmental liver volumes measurement, and to describe the volume of segmental liver and the relative contributions of the hepatic segments to total liver volume ( TLV) in health Chinese adult. Methods: According to the Couinaud's liver segment classification, total and hepatic segmental volumes were measured with Multidetectors CT in 79 adult without hver disease. The Correlation of sex, age, height and body weight with the measurement of hepatic segmental volume was analyzed. 10 cases selected with random digits table methods were undergone the measurement to make sure the repeatability. Results: The mean TLV of all cases was 1172.26+201.70cm3, the mean TLV of the men was 1189.56±189.62 cm3, the women's was 1138.96+ 223.10 cm3. There was no significant difference between TLV of men and women. The mean volumes of caudal segment, left lateral segment, left internal segment, right anterior segment, right posterior segment, left liver, right liver were 26.67 + 7.27 cm3,230.89± 56.39 cm3, 178.57+49.92 cm3, 414.33+90.78 cm3, 321.80+78.31 cm3, 409.47+98.95 cm3, 736.13 + 135.91 cm3 respectively. And their ratios to TLV was 2.29%+0.53%, 19.70%+3.34%, 15.14%±2.82%, 35.32%±4.73%, 27.55%±5.06%, 34.84%±5.14%, 62.87%±5.19%, 56.48%+13.17%, 3.67%±0.93% respectively. The mean volume of right liver in women was less than that of men (687.60+136.54 women,761.33 +129.81 men, P <0.05). The ratio of left liver to right liver in men was 53.63%+13.78%, and that of women was 61.95 ± 10.02%, P <0.05. No significant change in TLV, hepatic segmental volume and the ratio of each segment to TLV caused by age were observed. There was statistically significant correlation between the height and the TLV ( r =0.235, P < 0.05).Body weight increase showed obvious effect on the accretion TLV and each segmental liver volume increase(r =0.623, P < 0.05). But there was no significant difference in the ratios of each segmental liver volume to TLV among different body weight groups. There was significant agreement between the first and the second measurement of segmental liver volume with multidetectors CT in 10 cases. Conclusion: Enhanced Multidetectors CT scan is an accurate and repeatable way to measure the volumes of segmental liver. Physiological factors affected normal TLV, segmental liver volume and their ratios varied greatly and should be considered properly. There is clinical value for measurement of segmental liver volume with Multidetectors CT.
