Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is one of the most common head and neck cancers in South China and South Asia. The etiology studies indicated that the genetics factors, infection of Epstein-Barr virus, dietary factors, and environment factors such as chemical carcinogen, were correlated with its developing. The statistic analysis revealed that 10% of NPC patients have family history and that Chinese in South China and emigrant Chinese in other countries have a high NPC incidence rate. Therefore, genetic susceptibility might play an important role in the initiation and progression of NPC.The investigations of World Health Organizations (WHO) indicate that the environmental factors have an influence on the occurrence of 80%-90% cancer. Among environmental factors, consumption of Cantonese salted food and infections of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) are most documented. Not only the occurrence of cancer is the result of the interaction of genetics factors and environmental factors, but also the chemical carcinogenesis is the multi-stage action of multi-factors and multi-genes. So the function study of the genes involved in the formation of chemical carcinogen and chemical carcinogenesis is very important in the etiology studies of cancer. The expression of ESTW95442 is down-regulated in nasopharyngeal carcinoma biopsies, in comparison with normal nasopharyngeal epithelial...
