| The history and advances of the studies about the transsexual phenomenon and the surgical treatment of male to female transsexuals are reviewed. The basic requirement and principles of the operative design in the treatment of male to female transsexuals were put forward and a new operative technique was established according to the observation of the vulval form of the Chinese young women and the anatomic study of male external genltalla.
