Diabetes, called Xiaoke disease in traditional Chinese medicine, is a chronic metabolic diseases induced by inadequate insulin secretion absolutely or relatively, which results in the disorders of sugar, fats and proteins directly and of vitamin, water and electrolyte metabolic secondary, and breaks oxidation balance. There are four types diabetes generally in clinic, but type 1 (insulin-dependent) and type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes occur frequently. Until now, diabetes mechanisms is not yet very clear. Although combination treatment including dietary therapy, movement therapy and drug treatment used for diabetes in clinic, but mostly drug is used to control blood glucose level, reduce the symptoms of diabetes, and delay further deterioration of diabetes complications. But there are different side effects for drug treatment and long-term treatment will increase drug dependence and aggravate the symptoms of diabetes, which depress the life quality of diabetes patients seriously and aggravate the economic burden of society. So researchers turn to the natural plant that control blood glucose level effectively, hope to control blood glucose level, prevent the complications, and improve the life quality of diabetes patients by dietary.Pumpkin is cucurbita pepo plant, can be used as food and drug, also is our traditional natural food to control blood glucose level and the pumpkin polysaccharide, extracted from it, is the main active ingredient, and non-toxic. In recently, research about its effect to control blood glucose level has become hot, but there is no reports about its mechanisms study. Establishing type 1 diabetes rats model induced by alloxan, we studied the dose-effect relation of pumpkin polysaccharides in diabetic rats; investigated the effects of pumpkin polysaccharide on diabetes rats and...
