In the course of embryonic development of the vertebrate, neurula is an important process. At this stage, the overlying ectoderm thickens and forms the neural plate. Then the lateral edges of the neural plate become more elevated to form neural folds. Gradually the neural folds approach each other in the midline, and fuse to form neural tube. The genesis and differentiation of the neural tube are the precondition of the normal development of the brain and spinal cord. The abnormal of this course would cause neural tube defects (NTDs). With the development of modern industry and the severity of the pollution, the incidence rate of the congenital malformation of human being became higher and higher year by year. The investigation in 1986 showed that the incidence rate of the congenital malformation of newborn reach to 1.3% in our country, so the research of the congenital malformation has gained more and more attention. NTDs are one of the most common and severe congenital malformations resulting from the failure of neural tube to close normally. Anencephaly, exencephaly and spina bifida are the major types of NTDs, which mainly affect the central nervous system. NTD is one of the main causes of fetal death,...
