BackgroundNowadays, the number of the patients in final stage of hepatic failure induced by hepatitis, tumor, infection and trauma is increasing. Clinically, the effective methods for its treatment include liver transplantation, liver cell transplantation and hepatic stem cell transplantation. Orthotopic liver transplantation is the most effective for acute hepatic function failure, final hepatopathy and metabolic hepatopathy among these methods. However, many patients die because of the limitation of liver donators in the course of waiting for transplantation. Liver cell transplantation, cheap and simple, has been developing for many years, but it is also blocked by the absence of donator and immunologic rejection. Recently, the study about hepatic stem cell is a highlight. As there is not immunologic rejection, the stem cells deriving from the livers of their own, are probably suitable transplants for all kinds of hepatic failure after liver damage. But the quantity of liver stem cells in vivo is so small that it can not satisfy the need of patients and the liver stem cells are difficult to proliferate in vitro. In this case, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), a possible precurosor of hepatic stem cell, become promising substitute of liver stem cells, which gains more attention from researchers. There has been some progress in the study about the methods of separation, culturing and identification of MSCs. The MSCs excel positive effect on the hepatic repair. Bone marrow stem cells include mesenchymal stem cell and...
