Background: Hypoxia is a frequent condition that not only develops during Neonatal asphyxia but also occurs in such medical disorders as cardiac-cerebrovascular accidents, which jeopardize the health of the patients and even their lives. Whereas, the prevention and treatment of these diseases are confined by: â‘ the animal models used can't take on the clinical characteristics of the neonatal asphyxia; â‘¡ preconditioning is the most effective intrinsic mechanism to prevent the hypoxic/ischemic insult, but its clinical application is limited because its security, practicability and validity are still controversial; â‘¢ the mechanism of hypoxic/ischemic insult and preconditioning are still unclear. There is now ample evidence that during uterine contractions the utero-placental blood flow diminishes leading to a temporary decrease of fetal oxygenation, which is analogical to the preconditioning. Interestingly, the vaginal delivery babies can better tolerate hypoxia than those by C section. This phenomenon maybe suggests that: â‘ A series of uterine contractions...
