Objective: Through researching the flow field characteristics, shear stress distribution, the effects of shear stress on lipoprotein concentration distribution and lipoprotein receptors expression in carotid artery bifurcation model, to probe the effects of lipoprotein concentration distribution and receptors expression on the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis under low shear stress conditions.Methods: (1) Modifying the tuning fork average human carotid bifurcation model based on the parameters of internal diameter of carotid artery got by UCG and CTA techniques. Utilizing PIV to measure the velocity profile in the model and get the distribution of velocity and shear stress. The distribution of velocity and shear stress were also calculated by the numerical simulation method. And the numerical simulation results were compared with the PIV results.(2) Detecting the luminal surface concentration of LDL and HDL in CCA, ICA and ICAS. The luminal surface concentration of LDL and HDL was compared with between high flow velocity group and low flow velocity group in each sampling point.
