With the recent development in new scientific techniques, the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer has rapidly improved; such as sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB), breast conservation surgery for breast cancer, which are gradually changing people's impression towards breast cancer. However, there is little or no development with regards to lymph metastasis of breast cancer. It is believed that there is a relation ship between lymph metastasis and some of tumor associated factors, such as VEGF-C,FLT-4and nm23.In order to explore the expression of VEGF-C, FLT-4 and nm23 in breast carcer and correlate them with various clinic-pathologic characters, the protein expression level of VEGF-C, FLT-4 and nm23 in ninety-eight cases of breast disease were measured by using S-P immunohistochemistry. It was found that there is a significant difference in VEGF-C, FLT-4 and nm23 protein expression between breast carcinoma and benign breast tumor. The expression of VEGF-C and FLT-4 protein is significantly higher in axillary lymph nodes metastasis group than in non axillary lymph nodes metastasis group (P<0.05). There is no significant difference in nm23 protein expression in the axillary lymph nodes metastasis group and non axillary lymph nodes metastasis group (P>0.05). The expressions of VEGF-C, FLT-4 and nm23 had no significant correlation with tumor size and PTNM stage of breast carcinoma (P>0.05). An associated detection of VEGF-C, FLT-4 and nm23 enhanced tumor metastasis when compared to individual tumor associated factor. Detection of VEGF-C and FLT-4 proteins expression may be used as biomarkers for lymph metastasis of human breast carcinoma. In order to further understand VEGF-C and FLT-4 mRNA expression in human breast cancer and its correlation with lymph node metatstasis and other clinical characteristic, VEGF-C and FLT-4 mRNA expression by real-time quantitiative...
