Background & Objectives: Carcinoma, which carcinogenesis is complicated, is a kind of multigenic disorder. It is important to illustrate the mechanisms of carcinogenesis. Microarray is a rapid, high-through and reliable technique and has great advantages in the research of multi-genetic disorders such as cancer. The genes with different expression in esophageal cancer and tumor-adjacent normal tissues are selected by Microarray in our laboratory. The aim of this investigation was to identify the genes differentially expressed in esophageal cancer, and their potential roles involved in carcinogenesis of esophagus. Methods: The up-regulated MLRQ subunit gene was obtained from the cancer tissues and the corresponding normal mucosa of esophagus, cardia, stomach, colon and liver, and their differential RNA expression profiles were confirmed by semi-quantitative RT-PCR and Northern blot. Results: (1) The up-regulation of MLRQ subunit gene was revealed in 81.6% of esophageal cancer, 57.1% of cardiac cancer, 85.7% of gastric cancer, 65.6% of colon cancer, 57.1% of liver cancer, respectively. No significant difference among them was observed by X~2 test (p>0.05). (2) There was no correlation between up-regulated MLRQ subunit gene and clinic stage, metastasis of lymph nodes, and differentiation...
