Amino acids(AAs), the basic unit of proteins, play an important role in proceeding a living organism metabolism. The determination of physiological AAs is of an importance not only for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of hereditary diseases, kidney diseases, liver diseases and neuropathy, but also for the evaluation of nutritive status of patients. Up to now, it is well known that the naturally occurring amino acids in human and other living organisms are of L-configuration, except for the cell wall of bacteria. Recently, however, it has been reported that D-AAs exist in human fluids and have a close relation to senescence, renal diseases, carcinoma, cartaract and Alzheimer's disease.
