2.1 The Changes of Hair Density and Whitening with Aging Objective To understand the changes of hair growth on different sites with aging and seek for new clinical parameters to assess aging. Methods After approval by the ethnic committee, 96 healthy volunteers(male44, female52, 30-78ys) were recruited and divided into 4 groups based on age with the step of 10. From the macrophotographs taken from vertex and temples, hair density and the percentages of white and black hairs were measured using Photoshop7.0 software, then the differences of hair density and the percentages of white and black hairs in different groups were analyzed by SPSS 11.5 software packages. Results (1) The hair density on vertex and temple is decreased with increasing age and the differences were found between 60-group and the other 3 groups, but no difference was found between males and females in each age group. (2)With aging, the percentages of black hairs on vertex and temple reduced, while white hairs increased. Compared with those in other 3 groups, the changes in 60-group are significant. Moreover, there was significant difference between males and females in 60-group, but no difference was found between vertex and temple in each group. (3) Compared with that on temple in the 3 younger groups, the hair density on vertex are obviously higher in 60-group. Moreover, no difference was found on the percentages of white and black hair between vertex and temple in each age group. Conclusions The study showed that there were differences on hair density, the percentages of black and white hairs in different age groups and the changes of the above parameters in 60-group are significant than those in the other 3 younger groups. Compared with those on temple, the changes on vertex are more obvious, which suggested that hair growth on vertex could be used to evaluate aging. |
