Essential hypertension (EH) is a common cardiovascular disease, and the major treatment for it is antihypertensive medication. The selection of antihypertensives for patients has depended on clinical experience and related guidelines for a long-term, but individual differences have been still found to exist in antihypertensive efficacy and side effects. During recent years, individual differences in antihypertensive efficacy have been confirmed by lots of researches to be correlated with gene polymorphism, thus the relation between gene polymorphism and antihypertensive efficacy as well as side effects has become a hot spot for numerous scholars. It is significantly important to applicate gene polymorphism to the theoretical foundation and clinical research on hypertension individual drug treatment. This study investigated gene polymorphism of β1-AR, CY2PD6, ACE and of BDKRB2 in the population of Hunan mid-region by PCR and PCR-RFLP method. The results showed that the frequencies of Ser49Ser and Arg389Arg genotype of β1-AR gene were respectively 68.7% and 55.3%. And the allele frequencies of 49Ser and 49Gly were 83.9% and 16.1%, moreover 76.1% for 389Arg and 23.9% for 389Gly. The CYP2D6 allele frequencies were aligned to *10, *1, *2, *5 from the highest to the lowest, with CYP2D6*10*10 as the most frequent genotype frequency (47.4%). ACE I and D allele frequencies were 55.8% and 44.1% respectively, and genotype frequencies of II, ID and DD were 33.5%, 44.7% and 21.8%. The results also showed 52.6% for C allele frequency and 47.4% for T allele frequency as regarding to BDKRB2 -58 T/C, and genotype frequencies of CC, CT and TT were 24.8%, 55.6% and 19.6%.300 patients with Arg389 allele in β1-AR gene chosen from 403 EH patients were divided into three phenotype groups according to CYP2D6...
