IntroductionCancer was one of the most dangerous diseases to mankind and both the morbidity and mortality of which increasingly rose in the world. Many efforts have been devoted to understand the molecular mechanisms of invasion and metastasis in human cancers. A number of molecules, including adhesion molecules, metalloproteinases, and angiogenic factors, have been implicated as key players in invasion and metastasis. The RECK ( reversion — inducing cysteine -rich protein with Kazal motifs) gene was isolated by cDNA expression cloning as a gene that induces flat morphology when expressed in a v - Ki - ras transformed NIH 3T3 cell line.Glioma was the most common intracranial tumor. Statistics data shows that its incidence rate became 40% of all intracranial tumors. Although interventions such as operation, radiotherapy and chemiotherapy were used, there were no obvious improment in prognosis. It is, therefore, a matter of urgency to identify novel and effective prognostic indicators for this disease. In this study, RT -PCR method (reverse transcription - polymerase chain reaction) was used to detect mRNA of RECK, MMP - 2 and MMP - 9 in glioma and benign tumors in central nervous system. To determine the cells responsible for RECK expression, immunohistochemistry was also performed in previou tumors. Correlation between RECK expression in brain tumors tissues and survival of the patients...
