Because of it's noble luster ,strong corrosion resistance, high ductility and good biocompatibility, gold was used as dental prosthetics since 2500B.D. In early 20th century, the introduction of precise casting technology expanded the generally applications of noble metal. With the sudden increase of gold price in 1970's, the cost of high-gold dental alloy increased as well, which induced the development of new substitute materials for it. The substitutes can be devided into two groups : one group includes Pd-Ag alloy, low-gold palladium alloy and silver alloy, the other includes dental casting alloys without noble metal. The domestic consumption of dental noble alloys reached only ten percent of that of developed countries. Dental alloys without noble metal are usually poor corrosion-resistant, low biocompatible and the corrosion products often results in side-effects ,such as inflammation, allergic reactions and bad oral ordor, which inhibited their uses. So, it is imperative to develop new alloys suitable for dental purposes .Ag-Pd alloy, which contains 30-50Wt% noble metal, is a good substitute...
