| It is well known that the secondary infarct-like pathological change was caused by shock, but there were different views about the primary pathological changes. Some thought that the lesions were caused directly by the virus. This should be confirmed by further study. The other hypothesis of mechanism of hemorrhagic fever with syndrome (HFRS) is immune damage. The immune complexes (IC) play an important role in the theory. It has been reported that IC deposit in the basement membrane of the glomerular capllaries and induce glomerulonephritis (GN) with secondary damage of renal tubule. However, it has been also proved that the primary characteristic of HFRS was the existence of a large amount of intracellular IC. They are distributed widely in all types of cells and the existence of IC on the basement membrane of blood vessels was uncommon. The question whether the main effect on the pathogenesis of HFRS is due to soluble or insoluble IC, has not been settled. In order to determine the effect of Hantaan virus antigen and antigen-antibody complexes on the pathogenesis of HFRS, the pure antigen and the insoluble and soluble antigen-antibody complexes were prepared in vitro, and was injected into... |
