The use of titanium and its alloys in dentistry is limited because of the gray color, especially for corwns and bridges. Therefore. it is very important to develop a special kind of porcelain which can be bound to titanium and its alloys. We developed a porcelain used to titanium and its alloys, and investigated the factors affecting the bond of titanium—porcelain, and evaluated the biocompati-bility of the new porcelain — Ti — Ceramic.1. The syntheses and analyses of a special porcelain used to titanium and its alloysTo develop the special porcalain used to titanium and its alloys, SiO2 — A12O3—B2O3—Na2O—K2O glass was chosen as the matrix and some other chemical compositions were used as the additives. The technology of porcelain was modified to manufacture and smelt the new material. Analyses of infrared spectrogram , scanning electron microphotograph and x— ray diffrattion fringe were used to study the microstructure and crystal composition. The physical and chemi(?)al properties of the new Ti — Ceramic were analysed and compared with TiBond. The results show that the physical and chemical properties of Ti —Ceramic (O— I and D— V) are similar to that of TiBond.2. Experimental study on porcelain fused to titanium and its alloys(1) The effects of pre — oxidation temperature on the bond strength of porcelain—titanium: The effects of pre—oxidation temperature of 300℃ , 500℃ or 700℃ on the bond strength of porcelain—titanium were tested. The interfacial state and bond strength of Ti—Ceramic fused to titanium materials. and the bond strength of the new Ti—75 alloy and low—fusing porcelain were evaluated. The shear bond strength test and interfacial analyses thorough the detection of metallograph and electron microprobe were used. The results show that the shear bond strength of porcelain — titanium was the highest in the green stage...
