A total of 207 species in 69 genera of thrips belong to two suborders (Terebrantia and Tubulifera) and five families (i.e. Aeolothripidae, Melanthripidae, Stenurothripidae, Thrinidae and Phlaeothripidae) are recorded from Iran. Amongst them, eight species are recognized as new to science, and seven genera, twenty one species and one tribe are newly recorded for fauna of this country. They are as follows:New species:Melanthrips fengi Mirab-balou & Chen, sp. nov., Melanthrips hei Mirab-balou & Chen, sp. nov., Mycterothrips hamedaniensis Mirab-balou & Chen, sp. nov., Mycterothrips weii Mirab-balou & Chen, sp. nov., Rubiothrips parisae Mirab-balou & Chen. sp. nov.. Rubiothrips tongi Mirab-balou & Chen, sp. nov., and Thrips alavii Mirab-balou & Chen, sp. nov. of suborder Terebrantia; Haplothrips (Haplothrips) rasouliani sp. nov. of suborder Tubulifera.Newly recorded tribe:Aleurodothripini Han of suborder Tubulifera.Newly recorded genera:Hydatothrips Karny, Megalurothrips Bagnall, Selenothrips Karny, Stenchaetothrips Bagnall and Thermothrips Priesner of suborder Terebrantia; Aleurodothrips Franklin and Bagnalliella Karny of suborder Tubulifera.Newly recorded species:Aeolothrips albicinctus Haliday, Aeolothrips cursor Priesner, Aeolothrips gloriosus Bagnall, Aeolothrips montivagus Priesner, Chrothrips marimi Ananthakrishnan. Hvdatothrips abdominalis Kurosawa, Kakothrips dentatus Knechtel, Limothrips cerealium Haliday, Megalurothrips distalis (Karny), Mycterothrips alvrines (Okamoto) Neohvdatothrips gracilipes Hood, Odontothrips loti (Haliday), Oxythrips claripennis Priesner, Rubiothrips vitalbae (Bagnall), Selenothrips rubrocinctus (Giard), Stenchaetothrips biformis (Bagnall), Thermothhrips monetensis reiikan, anu Thrips alliarum (Priesner) of suborder Terebrantia; Aleurodothrips fasciapennis (Frankiin), Bagnalliella yuccae (Hinds) and Haplothrips (Haplothrips) verbasci (Osborn) of suborder Tubulifera.The male of the widespread pest of wheat, Anaphothrips obscurus (Muner), is described and illustrated for the first time.All the Iranian taxa are keyed, diagnosed and described, with figures provided for all snecies. The distribution and plant associates are also provided for each species.In addition, a new method for preparing and mounting thrips for microscopic examination is represented.
