The astrometric/geodetic VLBI is overviewed in its deve1opment andits application in astronomy, geodesy and geodynamics. The VLBI geometrymodel is detailed discussed in mm-level. The installation ofastrometric/geodetic VLBI software system on HP workstation in ShanghaiAstronomy 0bservatory (SHAO) is outlined. The procedures of using FITSformat VLBI data to do astrometric/geodetic VLBI application researchis stated step by step. These present the basic theoretic background andaccess to the research works in the dissertation.Basing on the SHAO astrometric/geodetic VLBI data analysis softwaresystem, we have carried our work in the following aspects.The first Asian-Pacific Space Geodynamics (APSG) VLBI experiments isanalyzed. The results show the project has achieved its schedule objectand the project's great significance in monitoring the plate motion inthe Asian-Pacific area.Using the results from our global solution GSH0013a, which includesthe data from 1979 to 1998, we studied the phenomena of the shrinkageearth's north hemisphere and of the dilatation in earth's southhemisphere. And we got that the amplitude of this procedure was about1mm/yr to 3. 5mm/yr, similar as the estimation basing geophysical research,which predicts several millimeters change per year.According to our solution GSH0013a, we studied the discrepancies ofVLBI station motions between VLBI measurements and predictions of p1atemotion mode1 in China, San Andreas fau1t in North America and in Japan,and exp1ained the cause of the differences.Shanghai is a mu1ti--technica1 co11ocation station. Through theana1ysis of the station movements from VLBI, GPS and SLR, we discussedthe imp1ication of the differences from different ana1ysis center anddifferent techniques.App1ying the E0P series from our VLBI resu1ts, we studied the driftof the Earth rotation po1e. Using the measured motions of 5 ILS stationsfrom VLB1 technique, we estimated the apparent drift of the Earth po1ecaused by station loca1e movements. By deduct ing the apparent drift fromthe po1e drift from optica1 observations, we got that thi s resu1t agreedwe11 with of the VLB1 estimated.
