Recent years, iT technology, especially the development of Internet, distributed computing, components and software engineering influenced GIS greatly. From Desktop GIS to Distributed GIS, from Integrated GIS to Component GIS, from called onolithic,?losed?system to Open GIS, from applying to a few specialists and professionals to a community of enterprises and Internet users, GIS has changed greatly. GIS researcners must think about how to acclimatize themselves to these changes. In this paper, after analyzing and study these changes and research results in relative areas around the world, the author put forwards the concept of Distributed GIS Components Platform, and discuss it systematically on theory as well as on practice. The main content are abstracted as follows.1.From the distributed essence of geographic information, based on distributed computing platform, the conception of Distributed GIS Components Platform is put forward, and the research range and status in quo are introduced.2.Summary the technology context of Distributed GIS Components Platform. Review the trend and course of Component GJS and Distributed GIS, and discuss in detail the core technology of Distributed GIS Components Platform.3.Based on the research of all kinds of software engineering development approach, put forward an approach for Distributed GIS Components Platform USDP, and discuss the development process in detail.4.From the design target, strategy of open and interoperability, technology solution and service schema etc, analyze the designing and developing strategy for Distributed GIS Components Platform.5.As the result of the above research, based on MCiIS, put forward the solution of Distributed MGIS Components Platform, design and implement the prototypeMGIS.Net and minutely discussed the architecture and deployment of MG1S.net.6.Put forward the idea of Military Geography Information Network, and discuss, research and practise in the concept model and implement steps of it preliminary.
