Seismic lateral predication of carbonate reservoir is one of difficulties in the geophysical exploration. A lot of geophysicists have tackled this key problem for many years, but the ideal resolution is not available. And up till now, no method is well used in field data from the carbonate heterogeneous reservoir because the fracture formation is heterogeneous, especially in joint inversion both seismic exploration and well logging. So seismic lateral predication technology of homogeneous classic reservoir is mainly used. With the deeply development of oil and gas exploration, fractured hydrocarbon reservoir and creviced hydrocarbon reservoir is ready to get explored, so to study this key problem can get more information from seismic data and resolve much complex geologic problem by the critical seismic nature. Carbonate reservoir is widely exited in Sichuan basin. The reservoir is in control of structure, certification and fracture; the law of oil formation is bad; the homogeneity both vertical and horizon is good; so it is low that the appraisal well and exploration well get ideal data. As a result the exploratory development of carbonate reservoir in Sichuan basin is one key problem in the world.Based on those actual problems and existed research achievements, aiming at all kinds of carbonate reservoir, a set of prediction method, technology and work line form. In this paper, the analysis of compressive wave from seismic data is one of tools, so that predicating of fracture nature is available from seismic data. Studying azimuthal seismic nature from post-stack and prestack compressive wave seismic data can get the accurate seismic information of fracture medium. As a result, the distribution law of fracture in space is available; the level of theory and application in the field of carbonate reservoir enhance. This paper has certain innovation and achieves the following achievements and recognitions:(1) By analyzing, contrasting and studying the lithology, sedimentary facies and the reservoir of the representative carboniferous period, J23, Yang Xin reservoir, the reservoir pore space of the carboniferous period and J23 reservoir is mainly pore and the reservoir pore space of Yang Xin reservoir is cave and facture; the facture is mainly flow path through porous media.(2) Based on the type of reservoir pore pace and flow path, existed research achievements, aimed at all kinds of complex carbonate reservoir in Sichuan basin, two main types of reservoir is reasonably divided into the fracture-pore reservoir(carboniferous period and J23) and fracture-cave reservoir (Yang Xin reservoir) and geologic feature of each type of reservoir is summed up.(3) The fracture-pore carboniferous period reservoir in Shapingchang gas reservoir, the fracture-cave Yang Xin reservoir and the fracture-pore J2 reservoir is respectively studied. Based on analyzing and contrasting geologic fracture of the different type of reservoirs, the seismic response type of those reservoirs is established. To reach it, seismic response character and log response is deeply studied.(4) Based on the analysis of variation law of all kinds of log curves, the log response of carbonate gas reservoir shows "two high and two low": neutron porosity value and compensated acoustic wave value is high, natural gamma value and resistively value is low.(5) Based on the analysis of the general wave impedance inversion, the geologic modeling with high discernbility by forming the random modeling technology is initial model of the wave impedance inversion. As a result the discernibility of the wave impedance inversion enhance to accurately show the non-homogeneity law of reservoir.(6) To predicate the carboniferous period, J23, Yang Xin reservoir, the wave impedance inversion, the relative analysis, absorption coefficient, discontinuity theory, pattern recognition and lateral prediction using VSP data are used.
