Cobalt belongs to VIII family of transition metals. Because of its fine coordination activity and relatively low price, it has been widely used in organic synthesis, industrial catalysis, etc. Trivalent phosphine as a strong ligand can form stable complexes with transition metals, and can be widely found in organometallic compounds. Organocobalt compound supported by trimethylphosphine has high reaction activity and selectivity.Metal hydrido compounds play a central role in coordination catalysis. Schiff-base coordinated compounds have been widely used in catalytic reactions. With oxidative addition of O-H bond at cobalt centre, hydrido cobalt compounds containing a Schiff-base chelating ring were expected to obtain by reactions of C0L4 and CoL4Cl(L=PMe3) with salicylaldimines. Instead of the expected hydrido cobalt compounds the stable cobalt compounds with salicylaldiminato(N:O) chelating ligands were obtained under the experimental conditions.Reaction of 2-hydroxybenzonitrile with CoL3X (X=Cl, Br, I) afforded a novel hydrio cobalt(III) compounds containing 2-hydroxybenzonitrilato(N:O) chelating ligand. An ionic organocobalt(II) complex and an ionic organocobalt(III) complex were formed by reaction of 2-hydroxybenzonitrile with C0L4 and CoL3Me2I(L=PMe3) individually.Activation of a C-H bond by a transition metal center is usually a key step in many catalytic processes. It has been reported that trimethylphosphine supported organocobalt compound can activate C-H bond. A N=C bond π-coordinate complex (η2(N,C)-2-Py-N=CH-C6H5)CoL3(L=PMe3) was obtained, when an attempt to activate C-H bond of 2-(benzylideneamino)pyridine by C0L4 and CoL4Me(L=PMe3) was carried out. It's very significative to activate C-F bond of organic fluoride for the environmental protection. High bond energy and strong chemical inertia of C-F bond...
