Irritable Bowel Syndrome(IBS) is a disease which exhibits intestinal dysfunction. Going with the economical developed and medicine improved, the incidence gradually rises. It has been become the most common functional disorder. 'Zhu shao di jiang Decoction' (ZSDJD) is an effective preparation from pure Chinese herbs in treating IBS. On the basis of former research, this paper was systemically studied from the three aspects: theory, clinic and experiment. In clinical research, 86 involved IBS (diarrhea type) patients were randomly divided into the treatment group(50 cases, treated by ZSDJD) and the control group(36 cases, treated by Bu-pi Yi-chang Pill),and were treated from three to six weeks. As a result, clinical symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, abdominal distention and et al in the treatment group could be improved. It's total effective rate was 92.0%, and that in the control group was 69.4%. The former was much better than the latter (x2 =5.911 ,P<0.05).In experimental research, adopting the gastrointestinal Dysmotilitied model mice caused by the decoction of Radix et Rhizomarbe (including diarrhea model) .tested it by dying the colon with carbon in rats, then killed the rats and took the colon .making muscle strips .Each strip was suspended in a tissue chamber containing 4m1 Krebs solution (37°C) bubbled continuously with 95% O2and 5% CO2 Motility of each strip was simultaneously recorded.
