Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of of Jiangtangshuluo Formula(JTSLF) on diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN) in the pattern of deficiency of Qi and Yin larded with stasis and Feng(DQYSF),and to search for new ways and means of treating to both disease and traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) pattern. Methods Fifty-six cases with DPN in the pattern of DQYSF hospitalized in Taiwan Jinxin Clinique of TCM were randomly divided into treating group (TG) and controlling one (CG), based on fundamental therapy of Diamicron(Gliclazide) in each. At the same time, the cases in TG were treated by JTSLF while those in CG were treated by Methycobal. Then, all the cases in both groups were observed on and compared with their index changes in symptoms, signs, blood sugar, glycohemoglobin, total cholesterol, triglyceride and electromyography. Results The total effective rate was 89.29% in TG, compared 60.72% with that of CG, and the improving rate in TCM symptoms was 92.9%. The therapeutic effect of JTSLF on such indexes Like glycohemoglobin, total cholesterol and triglyceride was significantly superior to that of CG. The effect of blood sugar-reducing cooperated with Diamicron and of blood stream-improving were also significantly marked in TG than that in CG Furthermore, the index of nerve conduction velocity was also markedly improved. Conclusions The pattern of DQYSF is the primary one among all DPN TCM patterns, and JTSLF is effective for the treatment of DPN in the pattern of DQYSF. The means of approach include decreasing blood sugar, total cholesterol, triglyceride, increasing blood stream and improving nerve conduction velocity.
