Taiwan Literature Group was founded in 1918 by traditional intellectuals. It aimed to "advocate civilization, study poems and essays and be in favor of lieterary exchanges and communications among scholars". It published the Taiwan Review of Arts & Letters which had opened a steady literary field for intellectuals to preserve Chinese culture during the special age when Japanese colonialists tried to strangle and restrain the development of sinology. Taiwan Literature Group sticked to Chinese cultural heritage, in the same time it introduced modern schools of thoughts from literary magazins of Mainland and translated and imported western civilization. It was a literature enligntenment group which could keep pace with the times.
