Imperial examination was one of the most important events to scholars, and also one of the most important policies to the country, because for the government it was a kind of effective method to control scholars. In Qing dynasty, Manchu lord unified the whole country by military force, compairing with that, to rebuild stable social order and value system was even more difficult for a minority government. Imperial examinations helped the government a lot to achieve that goal.This thesis includes 2 parts, both taking imperial examinations as a background, and based on the sholars'experience of the examinations, to study how the imperial examinations influence their lives and creations of poetry. Taking typical poets as examples, to study the certain poetry style which created by those poets in specific period. The title of the 1st part is"from sad memory to peaceful melody", which mainly studies on poetry style changes in the beginning of Qing dynasty. The 2nd part of this thesis is"reform of imperial examination and poetry", which studies on the development of poetry in the end of Qing dynasty. Since the national prosperity started to decline badly, the government had to reform to get rid of destruction. Refom of the imperial examinations also pushed poetry changed a lot.To sum up, imperial examinations are significant causes of sholar's thought and creation. This thsis is the study on the relationship of exam and sholar, and how that relationship influenced the poetry history of Qing dynasty.
