With the generation of new poetry, the relation of the new and the old poetry became the important issue in the research of the literature history of the twentieth century. For a long time, poets of writing the old poetry in the new period were kept out of the modern literature research. However, reviewing the Republic 25 years'poetry situation, the old poetry is still the mainstream, especially the Tong Guang Style primarily affected poets'writing. Whether in the poets of writing old poetry and new poetry, or the politicians, or the ordinary readers, speaking of the influence, the old poetry is not inferior to the new poetry. As the Vernacular Movement happened. there were two generation poets writing the old poetry, the older generation poets such as Chen Sanli, Chen Yan, Zhang Binglin, Liang Qichao expressed the attitude to the new poetry in the way of'potential dialogues'and 'indirect dialogues'. The South Society and the School of Xue Heng poets such as Liu Yazi, Wu Mi, Wu Fangji's attitudes could be summarized in'direct dialogue'. Different from Lin Shu, the old generation poets didn't criticize the new poetry publicly, but they expressed views indirectly in the diaries, letters, talks, or speech etc.. The South Society and the School of Xue Heng poets directly debate with the School of The New Youth, and expressed the ideas to the new poetry. Wu Fangji, Hu Huaichen even created another Chinese new poetry, different with the new poetry recognized by the School of The New Youth. These poets' thinking on the way of Chinese poetry, suggestions to the new poetry, and the exploration of poetry style, are quite valuable. It looked that the new poetry and the old poetry circles were antagonistic, but the poets contacted with each other frequently, and their attitudes about the poetry could always be corresponded, which proved the new and old poetry circles were compatible. Moreover, the 'antagonism'between the new poetry and the old poetry circles was based on the Vernacular Movement's 'Enlightenment'and'Save the nation from extinction', not in terms of the poetry art. In the late 1920s to 1930s, which the new poetry circle reflected on was not the poetry of Tong Guang Style, South Society and Xue Heng School, but the poetry of Hu Shi who advocated the Literature Revolution several years ago. The poets writing old poetry were compatible with the poets writing the new poetry, such as Bian Zhilin, Dai Wangshu, Fei Ming, Zhu Guangqian, including Xu Zhimo, Wen Yiduo, Liang Shiqiu, Zhu Xiang etc.The author focuses on the mutual interaction of the old and new poetry circles, from aesthetic idea, the language evolution, culture attitude and image, the use of allusions, rhymes etc., to describe how the poets writing the old poetry treated the new poetry since the Vernacular Movement, and how they reflected on the old poetry and what features their'new poetry' should have. The author also investigates the old poetry writing of the poets writing the new poetry, and the old factor in their new poetry, in order to reveal their complicated attitude to the old poetry. Based on the above-mentioned, the author combines the macroscopic research and case studies, the historical description and theoretical construction, so as to draw a more comprehensive poetics picture of the Republic twenty-five years.
