Since the 1980s in the global context and under the influence of western postmodern theories, there have been conspicuous changes in the studies of Japanese literature. At first the most noteworthy are the reflection and re-perception of "modem Japanese literature". Many theorists have posed their doubts about the long-held self-evident concepts and made breakthroughs in the old framework of explanations concerning a series of great theories. Involved are globalization and nationalism, tradition and modernity, and the trend of development in Japanese literature in the future.Based on the meticulous carding of expositions by the most representative theorists in contemporary Japan, the dissertation, with the collision and blending of western culture and Japanese culture as a threshold, and by means of the combination of macro-study and micro-study, probes into the proposition of "the traits of modern Japanese literature and its establishment".Firmly based on the close relationship between "nation, language and literature'" the dissertation reveals the peculiarities of modem Japanese literature and with the change in Latin when western countries moved to modem times as a reference it expounds the close relationship between "national Japanese and national Japanese literature" as a significant link to the observation of Japanese literary circle. At the same time, with Tsubouchi Shoyo as a case study and after sorting out the reevaluation on him in Japanese literary criticism, the dissertation, following the exploration of the long-repelled relationship between political novels and Tsubouchi Shoyo, of the relationship between "evolutionary theories" and Tsubouchi Shoyo, and also of the real connotation and value of his prescription of novels as "art", deeply discusses the questions previously raised macroscopically. On the basis of the former researchers the dissertation draws the following conclusions.1. The reflection and reexamination of modern Japanese literature are the dialogues on a higher level between western culture and eastern culture in merging and also between western critical discourses and eastern critical discourses and they are directed to the 21st century. National Japanese literature is the literature written in national Japanese, and national Japanese is the prerequisite for the establishment of modem Japan and also the creation by modern Japan. Therefore, national Japanese literature is the product of modem Japan and only national Japanese literature is real modern Japanese literature, "national consciousness" and "world history" are the scopes to determine modern Japanese literature. It was Tsubouchi Shoyo who poured national consciousness into Japanese literature and brought it to the category of world literature. Basing on the framework of "advance and backwardness" with the west at the center, he placed Japanese literature in the western discourse.2. Postmodern theories have exerted tremendous influence on Japanese literary circle and the majority of Japanese literary critics make profits from others to make them Japanized, but many great theories are still in discussion. Restricted by the conditions and environments such as developed countries and developing countries there are great differences in understanding. From Marxist point of view the dissertation examines them from beginning to the end.3. In Japanese literary circle there is a trend that is to get rid of the ideological framework of "world history' and reaffirm national culture. Such a trend needs the attention of China's Japanese literary researching circle, for in China there also exists the issue of accepting the ideological framework of "world history", and at the same time China is faced with the same problem of seeking ways of coexistence with othercountries in the time of globalization. The use of Japanese example as a reference can develop Chinese culture, in addition, the enhancement of Chinese culture can also contribute its share to the whole mankind in the process of developing orientation of the world from multiple persp...
