Jin dynasty is a crucial time for the developing of calligraphy in our history. This doctoral thesis deals with the main characters of calligraphy of Jin dynasty and analyzes its epoch background, its important role in the history of calligraphy and its significant influence in the aftertime. The thesis contains four parts except the preface and the epilogue:Part One includes chapter one and two. These chapters centrally concern the time background of forming and thriving of calligraphy in Jin dynasty. Each time has it own arts. Various arts including calligraphy are always influenced by time spirit and daily life by which get their special features. It is necessary for the calligraphy in the Jin dynasty to be influenced by social innovating, political strives, age style and artistic trends. In this part, chapter one discusses how social innovating, political strives, age style and artistic trends can influence calligraphy. Chapter two argues cultural reasons why the calligraphy developed so fast in Jin dynasty from the educations, trends of thought and universal using of calligraphy materials.Part Two includes chapter three and four. These chapters generalize the characters of calligraphy of Jin dynasty in a great temporal and special view. Chen Yinque, a famous scholar considered the learning, religion can not be clearly described without discussing kindred and regions during Wei-Jin epoch. The same is the calligraphy. Chapter three argues the regional characters of calligraphy of Jin dynasty, its speciallyregional font and style. Chapter four describes its aristocratic feature. There have many aristocrats in Jin dynasty. Many of them were known by their calligraphical art, so them became the so called calligraphical family.Part Three is the chapter five. The chapter is a treatise on calligraphical arts of Two-Wangs. The reason why impose more attention on them is that they were the most famous calligrapher during Jin dynasty. They played very important roles not only in Jin dynasty but also in whole calligraphical history. There are comparative studies about their character, learning, font and style in the chapter.Part Four is the chapter six. This chapter is a simply summer on the calligraphy of Jin dynasty. Firstly it deals with its font, famous calligraphers, calligraphical remains and calligraphical articles, and analyzes its status in the history. Secondly it diachronically reviews the affect on the aftertime according on the shift of dynasty.In a few words, the calligraphy of Jin dynasty that was born by a special time which was a freedom epoch not only for arts but for people has a very significant status in the calligraphical history. Moreover it also has a position of eminence in the art history of whole human being.
