For the first time in China, this paper systematically studies the thought of well-to-do society from the aspect of ethics. On the basis of adequately referring to the research of others, the paper presents the development clue of the thought of well-to-do society in China's history. Then, The paper comprehensively studies the traditional thought of well-to-do society and the contemporary thought of well-to-do society in China from the aspect of morality and discusses the moral connotation of the thoughts of well-to-do society put forward during different periods of China's history. At last, the paper comprehensively studies the practical model of the morality construction in building comprehensively well-to-do society and some related problems.1.This paper systematically presents the development clue of the thought of well-to-do societyFirstly, the author studies the dream of well-to-do society and the evolutionary course of this thought in China's history. The author comprehensively reviews the three development phases of Deng Xiaoping's thought of well-to-do society and points out that the modern concept of well-to-do society is Deng Xiaoping's recreation based on the traditional ideas of well-to-do society. Although well-to-do society in Deng's system is also a kind of social ideal, it differs a lot from the traditional confucianists' and Kang Youwei's. Deng's thought is deeply based on the situation of China and the practice of its modernization and faithfully reveals the common wish of all the Chinese people. Therefore, this kind of ideal can be practically realized and it is now in the course of realization. Thirdly, the author reviews the thought of comprehensively constructing well-to-do society, which was formed since the third leadership generation led by Jiang Zemin came in office. The author holds that comprehensively constructing well-to-do society is a new aim and task for the Chinese people to fulfill in the 21st century. This theory meets theneeds of the age and is an expansion of Deng Xiaoping's theory of well-to-do society, thus broadening the connotation of socialism with Chinese features.2.The paper comprehensively studies the traditional thought of well-to-do society and the contemporary thought of well-to-do society in China from the aspect of moralityThe connotation of the traditional thought of well-to-do society lies in rites, good social order and morality. In Kang Youwei's The book of Great Harmony, well-to-do society shows political and cultural color of capitalism. In politics, Kang's well-to-do society is based on constitutional monarchy; in moral values, Kang's well-to-do society is guided by the ideas of freedom, democracy, equality and humanity, which were adhered to by modern bourgeoisie. By all appearances, besides sharing the dream with traditional confucianists, Kang's theory contains some political intention. Due to historical reasons, the upper two thoughts could not be put into practice.Deng Xiaoping has planed the socialism construction with Chinese features by using a concept based on the traditional culture of China. As a result, the ideal of well-to-do society of the present age can have broad social recognition. Furthermore, Deng's theory shows that he holds a dialectical stand in handling traditional culture: socialism construction in China should critically inherit the traditional culture of China; neither totally acceptance nor totally avoidance is appropriate. Deng Xiaoping has bestowed brand-new moral connotation on the idea of well-to-do society, which can be summarized as the following: practical idea of development, spirit of humanistic solicitude in social development and the view of justice in the development of society. Thus, the plan of well-to-do society has moral significance: it shows a traditional stand in handling traditional culture, inherits and develops the principle of "being practical and realistic" of the C.P.C, and further enriches and deepens our understanding of the modernization course of China.This paper, for the first time in China, discusses the moral connotationof the thought of comprehensively constructing well-to-do society. The author holds that the target of comprehensively constructing well-to-do society consists of three aspects at three different levels: the overall development of human at the level of individual, building harmonious society at the level of society and sustainable development at the level of the relationship between human and nature and that between human and society. To realize the overall development is an essential request of socialism, and also reveals the moral attribute of socialism. In constructing socialization with Chinese features, we should and we can make this target come true. The moral target of building harmonious society was put forth in "The Decision of the Central Government Regarding the Reinforcement of the Communist Party's Construction of Executive Capacity" approved at the Forth Plenary Session of the 16th Central Committee of the C.P.C. The Decision classes building harmonious society with economic, political and cultural construction in importance. Practically speaking, the target of building harmonious society is beneficial to facing the challenges we meet. Theoretically speaking, this target adequately reveals the ideas of people foremost, harmony and sustainable development. And seen from the perspective of strategy, the target shows the value orientation of China, that is, paying attention to and stressing "soft strength" in development. Sustainable development is a common view of the development idea in the world and the country situation of China requests that China employ the strategy of sustainable development, while at the same time we notice that, as a developing country, China faces the tasks of economic development and environment protection and bears the heavy burden of huge population. Therefore, in the course of sustainable development, we should firstly emphasize development and then make efforts to protect environment and meanwhile, this strategy should be linked with the principle of people foremost and aim at building a comprehensive and organic system of population, society, resources and environment.3.This paper comprehensively studies the practical model of the morality construction in building comprehensively well-to-do society...
