This dissertation consists of a preface and five chapters.The preface is the presentation of the reasons, purposes and approaches concerning the research on the feast songs of the Hui people in the Northwest China and the variations of the feast songs.There are five chapters in two parts. Part â…  is the account of the practice of the wedding feast and the feast songs of the Hui people in the Northwest China. Chapter One is about the origin of the wedding custom, the wedding ceremony, the significance of the feast and the evolution of the wedding institution. Chapter Two is the description of the feast and the feast songs, tea as the substitution of alcohol in the performance, the ways of inheritance, the social functions and the categorization of the feast songs.Part â…¡ is about the variations of the feast songs. Chapter Three is a retrospect of the historical backdrop of the changes. Chapter Four focuses on the regional variations of the feast songs, making an analysis on a few typical melodies of the same category in Ningxia, Qinghai, Gansu and Xinjiang, in an attempt to define the similarities and differences among them and the causes for the changes.
